Q: Who is QDB ? What is its Capital & Share Holders ?
QATAR DEVELOPMENT BANK with an authorized capital of QR. 200 million paid in full by the Government of the State of Qatar.
It is based in Doha, capital of the State of Qatar.
The main objective of the Bank is to contribute to the development and diversification of the economic and industrial investments in the State of Qatar.
It finances small and medium sized industrial projects and provides technical assistance and advice to industrialists for the implementation of their projects.
The bank is 100% owned by the Government of the State of Qatar.
Q: What are its main activities & services ?
- Provide soft long and medium-term loans to operating industrial projects willing to expand their production capacities or to new grassroots projects.
- Assist industrial projects in getting loans from other local sources and/or from international financial institutions, at the best conditions and terms.
- Provide credit facilities to the national industrial establishments for their exports and their imports, including raw and intermediary materials, machinery and equipment.
- Identify sound industrial investment opportunities in the various industrial sectors and undertake the necessary preliminary research and pre-feasibility studies for each project.
- Promote well-studied projects to businessmen and industrialists through all appropriate means such as industrial investment seminars, specialized technical meetings and others.
- Issues performance guarantees to local companies.
Q: Does QDB has Lending Priorities ?
The Bank's lending policy is to give priority to the industrial establishments for the following projects:
- Industrial projects that utilize local raw materials and resources.
- Industrial projects supporting already operating establishments in the country.
- Non labor-intensive projects.
Q: What are the conditions to be met for obtaining loan ?
The following conditions are to be fulfilled by any establishment applying for a loan from QDB:
- The establishment must be based in Qatar.
- The main activities of the establishment must be of an industrial nature.
- The establishment must conform to the Qatari law governing commercial companies.
- The Industrial project must have obtained the necessary official licenses.
- The technical and economic feasibility of the project must be supported by an adhoc study.
- The owner/owners of the project must have good reputation.
Q: What are the steps to be followed when applying for a loan ?
The following steps have to be followed when applying for a loan:
- A detailed loan application form should be filled in.
- A feasibility study for the concerned project must be appended to the application.
- An Industrial License should have been obtained.
- Existing establishments applying for the loan must provide copies of their audited accounts for the last preceding three years.
Q: What about the Loan Terms & Conditions ?
- Amount of the Loan - could reach 80% of the value of the basic capital equipment, provided that this amount should not exceed 60% of the total value of the project or 10% of the paid-up capital and reserves of the Bank which ever is less.
- Maturity - may vary according to the type of investment. Could reach 8 years in case of a new project and 5 years in case of a already existing project.
- Grace Period - could reach 2 years in case of a new project and 1 year in case of an existing project.
- Payment of the interest - quarterly and calculated on the outstanding balance of the loan.
- Interest Rate - would be 5% p.a.
- # Fees and Commissions - A lending commission of 0.5% p.a. and Administrative fess of 0.5% p.a.
